You have heard quite a bit of bad news about web designers. Flaky, Never Call you back, the job never gets done or just looks crappy. Let me tell you, a lot of these so called web designers or web design services are not professionals. They do web site design on the side or on the weekends to make extra money. Now i can tell you from experience that if you as a designer are not doing this on a daily basis you will lose touch with the ever changing world wide web. Sure, its a great deal but look at what your getting. Many business owners don’t realize what a good design is.
Let me give you some tips for spotting bad web designers. Web King (definitely not the king of any design what so ever) obviously cannot give you a professional design. He has designed tons of websites and they all look the same. (bad bad bad) When your looking for a web design service, the first thing you want to see is the portfolio. Check below and if you see any of these “NO NO’s”, you know that the designer is not a professional.
1. Any images that are dancing around that is not flash. (animated gifs look gaudy and makes the site look like a 2 year old built it)
2. Outrageous backgrounds, like blue and white clouds that move or dark weird looking background things. (this makes it hard for the visitor to concentrate on your actual website)
3. Huge different colored letters (When your site looks like a circus parade or rainbow, your visitors are going to have issues with reading the letters or text.)
4. Too many images (search engines don’t like alot of images, more relevant text is better. (I’m not saying don’t use images but make them look professional and relevant.)
5. Links that are consistently moving and jumping around. (You may think the visitor will be inclined to click on them, you’re wrong, its just another way to make you’re visitor leave even faster)
